Ex-Amazon Techie Says ‘Will Work For Free’ To Stay In UK; Internet Says ‘Go Back To India And Earn’

Swetha Kothandan, an Indian techie hustling in the UK, is worried about her graduate visa’s expiration in a couple of months. The student moved to the UK in 2021 “with the dreams of making it BIG,” however, ever since her graduation in 2022 she has not found a Visa-sponsored job in the country. A Btech in Mechanical Engineering from the JNTUA College of Engineering, Pulivendula, Shweta did her Master of Science in Advanced Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leicester. She earned 1st class honors during both degrees. Before moving to the UK, Shweta did her internship at BEML, Mysore, as a junior engineer trainee, and later in the UK she joined Amazon as an operations analyst. She is making her ends meet with her current job as a credit specialist. However, the present job is not visa-sponsored, and this could spell doom for her dreams. In her bid to get offers from potential clients and companies, Shweta posted a humble plea on LinkedIn stating her struggle so far, her eligibility, and her proposal—to work for free for a month in any design engineer roles. She remarks, “Fire me on the spot if I don’t deliver. No questions asked.” She adds that she will work 12 hours a day for 7 days a week to prove her worth. Shweta’s LinkedIn plea has garnered much virality with over 28 thousand reactions, over 3000 comments, and 1000+ reposts.
