In a scathing LinkedIn post, founder of Tunerlabs, Shyam Achutan, painted a grim picture for the Indian middle class in the next decade. His post entitled “The Disappearing Middle Class—You’ll Either Be Rich or Poor in 10 Years” stated how the desi middle class was the backbone of society but “those days are vanishing fast.” He quipped that there are only two paths left for this segment of society: either road to wealth or misery and worry. Sharing one of the concern with the modern middle class family in India, the founder quipped
From EMI-loaded iPhones to overpriced brunches, today’s middle class is desperate to look rich, not be rich.
He added,
This is financial suicide dressed up as “living your best life.”
They’re borrowing their future to flex in the present. Instagram aesthetics over actual assets.
The founder also suggested how some middle-class people are following a strategy to gain long-term wealth and prosperity. He stated,
They skip lavish weddings.
They drive used cars or take the metro.
They live below their means.
They invest early and consistently.
With the prevalence of AI, maybe some of these pointers might needed to be tweaked, as many of the tacts won’t be applicable if you are actually jobless. Read more of his post here
