Apple is rolling out iOS 26 globally, including in India, starting today. First showcased at WWDC 2025 in June, the update went through multiple developer and public beta releases before its official debut. Apple confirmed during its ‘Awe Dropping’ event on September 9 that the iPhone 17 lineup will ship with iOS 26 pre-installed when it becomes available on September 19. Meanwhile, users with supported iPhones can download and install the new iOS version right away.

Apple has confirmed that the iOS 26 update will begin rolling out globally starting today (Monday). While the company has not shared the exact time, past releases suggest the update will likely arrive around 10am PT (10:30pm IST). iPhones already enrolled in the beta programme will automatically be eligible for the stable build, including flagships like the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and the budget-friendly iPhone 16e.

The new iPhone 17 lineup and the iPhone Air, both launching on September 19, will ship with iOS 26 pre-installed. Alongside these, Apple has confirmed that iOS 26 will support a wide range of older models too, ensuring users of devices like the iPhone 11 and later, as well as the iPhone SE (2022), get access to the update. However, Apple Intelligence features will remain restricted to newer phones starting with the iPhone 15 series.

Installing iOS 26 is a straightforward process. Users simply need to open the Settings app, head to the General tab, and select Software Update. Once iOS 26 is detected, they can tap “Download & Install,” agree to the terms, and let the update run its course. The update will then be automatically downloaded and applied to the device.
Feature-wise, iOS 26 introduces a striking new Liquid Glass UI, inspired by visionOS, which reflects and refracts light for a more dynamic look. The Camera app has been redesigned with an improved layout, and the Photos app reverts to separate Library and Collection tabs. Apple Intelligence adds Live Translation and Call Screening, while Apple Music gains AutoMix and Lyrics Translation. Other highlights include the new Apple Games app, Visited Places in Maps, and expanded tools for Image Playground and Writing.
