Uber Teams Up with ONDC to Bring QR-Based Delhi Metro Ticketing to Your Fingertips

Uber has launched a new metro ticketing feature within its app, starting with the Delhi Metro, marking its first integration with India’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This move allows commuters in the national capital to plan their metro journeys, purchase QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit updates—all from within the Uber app. The partnership with ONDC represents a step forward in blending private mobility platforms with India’s growing digital public infrastructure.

Uber’s launch of metro ticketing on its app marks its first integration with India’s innovative digital public infrastructure, representing a significant step toward more connected public transport. This development follows a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding signed during CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India, where Uber pledged to deepen its partnership with ONDC to enhance access to digital public goods. Uber emphasized that this launch reflects its mission to make urban mobility more inclusive, sustainable, and seamlessly connected.

Uber plans to expand its metro ticketing feature to three more Indian cities in 2025 and will also launch a B2B logistics service via the ONDC network, allowing businesses to use Uber’s delivery network without owning a fleet. Uber’s CTO, Praveen Neppalli Naga, described this integration as a move closer to their vision of becoming a one-stop solution for all mobility needs.

ONDC’s Acting CEO Vibhor Jain called the partnership a significant milestone in widening access to reliable, interoperable digital infrastructure in India. The collaboration aims to enhance urban mobility by enabling seamless transitions between different transport modes and unifying the logistics ecosystem. This move highlights growing global tech interest in India’s digital public infrastructure, with ONDC playing a crucial role in democratizing access to digital services across sectors.

In a statement, Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer, Uber, said “ India has taken an impressive leap in building population scale technology through its Digital Public Infrastructure like ONDC and we are thrilled to integrate with them to bring metro ticketing to the Uber app, bringing us one step closer to our vision of being a one-stop shop for mobility needs. Working with ONDC has pushed us to reimagine how private innovation can plug into public platforms to deliver seamless, smart solutions and we are just getting started.”
