SC Grants Anupam Mittal Relief Over Cheating Case By Woman Who Got Scammed Of Rs 10 Lakh On Shaadi Dot Com

A two-judge bench at the Supreme Court, namely Justices Sandeep Mehta and Joymala Bagchi, provided big relief to Shaadi Dot Com founder Anupam Mittal over a criminal case filed against him.

The charge filed at the Telangana High Court was challenged at the SC pertaining to a woman allegedly defrauded by a man she met on the matrimonial site who scammed her of over Rs 10 lakh. The person later threatened the victim with morphing her pictures and publishing them online.

The complainant in their case argued that Mittal’s platform failed to verify the details of the man; however, the entrepreneur’s counsel countered that regardless, she decided to meet the person outside the site on her own volition. They also reasoned that the site clearly warns against contacting persons outside the platform or engaging in financial transactions.

While the Telangana High Court junked Mittal’s arguments, the SC passed an interim order on June 26, staying the proceedings against Anupam Mittal in the criminal case. The Supreme Court bench has also sought a response from the Telangana Police in the matter. Originally Mittal’s name was not added in the complaint. It was only included later during the proceedings at the Telangana High Court.
