Asus, a prominent PC manufacturer, has recently introduced the Asus ZenBook S16, marking the company’s inaugural CoPilot+ PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI processor. The design of this new model closely resembles that of its predecessor, the ZenBook S14. With the integration of AMD’s latest Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, the ZenBook S16 is designed to enhance AI capabilities and improve efficiency in everyday tasks. After utilizing the device for approximately a week, we share our insights on its performance.
Asus invests significant effort into its design, a commitment that is evident in the ZenBook S 16. This laptop features a novel material called Ceraluminum, a blend of ceramic and aluminum, which gives the lid a striking appearance, especially up close. Additionally, glossy silver lines traverse the lid, enhancing its visual appeal. Weighing approximately 1.5 kg and measuring just 11.9 mm in thickness, this laptop is remarkably portable. It fits seamlessly into a laptop bag, making it easy to carry without feeling cumbersome.
The Asus ZenBook S16’s 16-inch 3K OLED display is stunning, offering rich colors, deep blacks, and sharp details that make everything from movies to productivity tasks look vibrant and crisp. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and fluid visuals, perfect for both creative work and entertainment. Overall, the display delivers an immersive and premium viewing experience.
The audio system in the ZenBook S16 is remarkable, equipped with six integrated speakers. Even with its compact dimensions, the sound quality exceeds expectations.
Regarding the ports, the left side features two USB 4.0 Gen 3 Type-C ports that support display and power delivery, along with a 3.5mm audio jack and an HDMI 2.1 port. On the right side, there is one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port and an SD 4.0 card reader.
The keyboard of this device features a reduced stroke with a key travel of 1.1mm, making it user-friendly and ensuring a seamless typing experience. Throughout the review period, the laptop served as my primary device. Additionally, the laptop is equipped with a spacious touchpad that performed effectively throughout the review.
At the heart of the Zenbook S 16’s performance lies the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX370 processor from the Ryzen AI 300 series. This advanced processor boasts 12 cores and 24 threads, constructed on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture, which includes a mix of four Zen 5 cores and eight Zen 5c cores.
With a base clock speed of 2.0 GHz and a maximum boost clock of 5.1 GHz, this CPU ensures consistently robust and efficient performance. A notable feature of the Ryzen AI 300 series is the AMD XDNA 2.0 NPU, which can achieve up to 50 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), positioning it as a strong competitor in the realms of AI and machine learning applications.
The Zenbook S 16 effectively combines performance and longevity. Equipped with a 78Wh battery, this laptop can sustain up to 12 hours during video playback evaluations.
