Google and Samsung have raised the bar in the Android ecosystem by announcing extended software support for their latest flagship models. The Pixel 8 series and Galaxy S24 trio are now guaranteed up to seven generations of Android updates, setting a precedent for longevity and user satisfaction.
Apple Adapts to UK Regulation with iPhone 15 Pro Max Support Window
In compliance with the UK’s Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) regulation, Apple has specified a minimum support duration for its iPhone 15 Pro Max.
According to a recent document uploaded to its website, Apple commits to providing security updates for a minimum of five years from the device’s first supply date, starting September 22, 2023.
Comparing Support Periods: Apple, Google, and Samsung
Apple’s defined support period of five years for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is notably shorter compared to its Android competitors. However, Apple has a history of extending software support beyond minimum guarantees, as seen with models like the iPhone XS, which still receives updates years after its release.
Samsung and Google, in contrast, lead with a pledge of seven years of Android system and security updates for their latest Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8 series, respectively. This extended support ensures users benefit from ongoing software improvements and security enhancements well into the future.
